Restoration Works Begin at Son Boter, Joan Miró’s Second Studio in Mallorca

The Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca has begun restoration works on Son Boter, an 18th-century farmhouse acquired by Joan Miró in 1959, which became his second space for artistic creation. The building, declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), preserves a unique collection of 57 original charcoal drawings by Miró on its walls, offering a direct insight into the artist’s creative process.

This initiative marks a decisive step in preserving Miró’s architectural and artistic legacy, ensuring its conservation for future generations. The project includes a comprehensive restoration of the building and the conservation of the drawings, with the aim of enhancing the visitor experience for the thousands of people who visit the Foundation each year.

The restoration project is promoted by the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca, in collaboration with the Municipal Housing and Comprehensive Neighborhood Rehabilitation Board (PMH-Riba) of Palma City Council, and follows the guidelines set by the Consell de Mallorca for heritage protection.

The contract was awarded through an open public tender and has a base budget of €102,952.80 (VAT included) for technical assistance services, the drafting of the basic and execution projects, full site management, and health and safety coordination during the construction phase.
