Triangle Miró joins forces to bring to Mont-roig an unprecedented exhibition of tapestries by Joan Miró and Josep Royo

Posted on 25 June 2025

The Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca has loaned eight tapestries to the Fundació Mas Miró for the exhibition “Joan Miró / Josep Royo. Eight tapestries”, which can be visited from June 27 to September 15, 2025 at the Església Vella Cultural Center in Mont-roig del Camp.

This is the first time that these tapestries can be viewed from the front and back, in line with the original intention of Joan Miró and Josep Royo, who conceived the pieces as three-dimensional artistic objects. The installation, designed by Ignasi Cristià, allows for an immersive and complete vision thanks to a modular and transparent scenic structure integrated into the architecture of the old church.

The tapestries were woven by Royo from drawings by Miró for the books Le lézard aux plumes d’or (1971) and Miró à l’encre (1972). They are not simple reproductions, but autonomous works that transfer the radical and experimental spirit of the artist to the textile language.

With this project, the Triangle Miró —formed by Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca, Fundació Joan Miró de Barcelona and Fundació Mas Miró de Mont-roig—reaffirms its strategic collaboration to preserve and disseminate the legacy of Joan Miró, symbolically returning it to the territory that inspired him.

Mont-roig del Camp, where Miró began his textile research after a vital episode deeply linked to the town, thus becomes the setting for a unique exhibition, both in terms of content and emotional and historical context.
